NIMC in deep slumber – Samuel

Aliyu Aziz Abubakar, DG/CEO NIMC

I feel sad each time I see a laudable government project or initiative being debased on account of inefficiency of government workers. The National Identity Management Commission is one of such.

I registered for the national ID two years ago but I am yet to get the document. I have been to their websites several times to check the status of my application but I keep getting the message, “Sorry Samuel, the details did not return a result. Perhaps your card has not yet been dispatched. Please try again in a week or so.” I have also visited their office several times without any success. I am not alone as many Nigerians are equally being frustrated in their attempt to get the National Identity Card. When they register top government personalities like president, governors, ministers, senators, etc, they televise it as if it is an achievement. But they do not process that of the masses with that kind of speed. I registered years before former President Goodluck Jonathan and the incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari and other eminent personalities whose collection of their identity cards were televised and made a huge media affair. Yet I am still waiting.

NIMC is in deep slumber and it needs to wake up. I hope its new Director General, Engr. Aliyu Abubakar will address this issue urgently so as to redeem the image of NIMC, that’s if it ever had any.
