The Consumer Protection Council (CPC) has alerted consumers of HP products in Nigeria to the on-going safety recall and replacement of some HP notebook computers and mobile workstation batteries.
A statement signed by Babatunde Irukera, the council’s director-general, stated that in January 2019, HP Inc. announced an expansion to its on-going worldwide safety recall and replacement programme for certain notebook computer and mobile workstation batteries which was announced in January 2018.
The batteries affected have bar codes beginning with 6GAVV, 6EZPC, 6FDWN, 6EZZE, 6EZZF, 6EVXH, 6ETGL, 6FSRV, 6FWBF and 6FWBH, the statement said, and may have been sold with the products named below:
In another statement by HP Inc. these affected batteries may have been shipped with specific computers from December 2015 through April 2018 and as accessories or provided as replacements from December 2015 through December 2018, warning that the batteries have the potential to overheat, thus posing a fire and burn hazard to users.
“HP’s primary concern is for the safety of our customers. HP is proactively notifying customers, and will provide replacement battery services for each verified, eligible battery, at no cost. For customers with five or more potentially affected batteries, HP has put in place a process to assist with validation and ordering,” the statement said.
To find the product name, users are advised to use the keyboard shortcut ‘fn+Esc’ or check the barcode label under the notebook computer.
